John Megna was born in Queens, New York, on November 9, 1952. The most accurate information on his parentage seems to be that his mother was Eleanor McGinley Ingoglia Megna, a former singer, and his father was Ralph Megna, an actor. Despite what other websites state, it is unlikely that Megna’s last name was ever Ingoglia (or Ingolia), since that was the last name of his mother’s ex-husband, and that would be just too weird. The confusion probably stems from the fact that Megna’s older half-sister (same mom) is actress Connie Stevens, whose birth name was, in fact, Conchetta Ingoglia.
Megna’s first acting gig was a role in the Broadway play “Greenwillow,” which he landed at the ripe old age of seven. He went on to act in another Broadway play, and then moved on to movies and television shows. His two best-known roles are most likely Dill (a character based on Truman Capote) in To Kill a Mockingbird, and Little Boy in the “Miri” episode of the original Star Trek series. One of his best performances (in my opinion) is as Anthony ‘Tony’ Grainger in “The Magic Shop,” a 1964 episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. You may also have seen him in such diverse projects as The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (the John Travolta movie, not the Seinfeld episode), Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte, and Cannonball Run.
In his off time, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts from Cornell University and was founding director of L.A. Arts, a nonprofit theater group in Los Angeles, CA. I would tell you more about L.A. Arts if I could find any more information about it. Anywhere. At all.
He quit on-screen acting in 1984 and became a theater director. Later he became a high school English teacher in California,
On September 4, 1995, Megna died at Midway Hospital after suffering complications of AIDS. Different sources state different information, but Megna left behind some combination of the following: a brother, a sister, a half-brother (who died six months and one day after he did), and a half-sister (Stevens). Menga was also a former brother-in-law of Eddie Fisher (who wasn’t?) and uncle to Joely and Trisha Leigh Fisher.

Megna was also a former brother-in-law of Eddie Fisher (who wasn’t?) and uncle to Joely and Trisha Leigh Fisher.
Megna was cremated, and his cremains were given to a loved one.
